• Who are we?

    Cónchar International School

Cónchar International School was founded with the belief that children should be at the center of their own education.

Here, learning is meaningful, with educators working to connect learning content with the interests of students.

We invest significant time, effort, and enthusiasm into designing our spaces to support this approach.

The visionaries behind this project are Sergio and Laura

Both graduated in Teaching at the University of Granada with specialties in Music, Hearing & Language, and Aucouturier Psychomotricity. They are dedicated educators who continuously engage in training through various courses, seminars, and conferences related to education, communication, and learning.

Since 2011, Sergio and Laura have been committed to a different and innovative education in various projects and schools. Three years in Tikapata School, Peru; six years in Raíces, Granada; and now four years in Cónchar International School, Granada.

We believe that education is the basis for creating a more respectful world with the environment and with life in general.

Each person is strengthened differently; while our vital needs are the same, their expression is shaped by individual histories and contexts.

  • Educational Principles

Understanding our own subjectivity and that of others brings us closer to a world of empathy. Respectful relationships are fundamental.

    • Life and respect for life: for oneself, others, and the environment
    • Freedom of movement according to interests
    • Learning through emotional connections and personal interest

    • We have established rules and agreements for using spaces, some decided by the children's assembly, others by educators.
    • Learning happens naturally when there is an emotional connection and personal interest.

    • We trust in the students' potential, development, and capacity, supported with commitment and guidance from the school.
    • Educators ensure students' safety, well-being, and needs. Our curriculum includes basic knowledge and pedagogical structures like environments, workshops, and personal projects.

At Cónchar International School, no two days are the same. Each day, students bring their personal stories, whether it’s a dream they had, a new book they received, or an exciting event (like losing a tooth!). The children move spontaneously according to their interests.

Depending on their age, students might explore activities in various environments such as technology, mathematical logic, arts, music, communication, science, or gardening. They might also engage in imaginative play, pretending to be warriors, princesses, caregivers, or adventurers escaping from giants. These moments are crucial for discovering interests that can later develop into personal or group projects.

There are also designated times for workshops and structured projects. Workshops might include carpentry, parkour, experiments, music, theater, basketball, dance, arithmetic, and literary creation. Project examples could be forest survival, Greek mythology, or historical studies on medieval torture tools.

Throughout the week, students participate in assemblies where they discuss and agree on rules, and in circles where they share with the group. We emphasize commitment and responsibility, encouraging each student to set personal goals. Every two weeks, tutors meet individually with students to set goals, analyze peer relationships, and reflect on their progress, creating personalized schedules for each student.

  • Learning paths

    Why does it get dark?

    Who created planet Earth?

    Where does water come from?

What will I be like when I grow up?

Students constantly ask questions about the world around them, exploring the connections between their learning, interests, and environment.

At Cónchar International School, our pedagogical structures, or learning pathways, are designed to enrich and deepen students' knowledge. These pathways include:

    • Environments
    • Workshops
    • Projects of interest
    • Assemblies
    • Circles
    • Individual meetings (tutorials)
    • Resource boxes

Each person's strengths are unique. Although everyone has the same basic needs, the way these needs are expressed is shaped by individual history and context. Our learning paths are tailored to support and nurture each student's unique journey.
